booking + your visit7 questions

how do i book?

you can book online anytime, or call the location you'd like to visit and we'll find your earliest opening: east nashville at 615-807-0386 or springfield at 615-576-3403. new to booking online? see every step.

i can't find my stylist online. what does that mean?

it means they're more than likely booked, but you can add yourself to their waitlist.

what's included in my visit?

every appointment comes with an assortment of amenities, on us:

  • beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic
  • snacks
  • lunch provided during extension services
  • bond builders included in all lightening services
  • toning and glossing included in all lightening services
  • hot towels and steam treatments
  • wool and cashmere blankets
  • michelin-worthy hospitality

how early should i arrive for my appointment?

just arrive on time. there's no need to come early, because we'll be on time for you!

should i wash my hair before my appointment?

it depends on your service:

  • color: come with clean, dry hair. our color works best that way.
  • traditional haircut: no need. we'll wash your hair for you.
  • curl cut: come with your hair styled the way you usually wear it.

which salon should i book?

whichever is easier for you to get to, or whichever fits the stylist level you're looking for. both offer the same hair services and the same standard of care. springfield is the future home of the walden. spa.

why do you need my address?

simply because we may want to send you a little gift sometime! (the boring side: it also helps us know where our guests are coming from, so we can market our business to the right people.)

pricing + stylist levels3 questions

how much will my service cost?

it depends on your services and your stylist's level. use our calculate your visit tool on the price list: pick your stylist or level, add your services, and you'll get an estimated total and time in the chair before you ever come in.

your stylist confirms your final price at your appointment. extension pricing is set at your consultation.

are prices different between locations?

no. pricing is set by stylist level, not location, so a level 5 costs the same at either salon. since our senior and master stylists are mostly in east nashville and our junior and signature stylists are mostly in springfield, you'll typically find more accessible pricing in springfield.

what do your stylist levels mean?

every stylist at the walden. is on a clear career path of ten levels, grouped into four tiers. as they grow in skill and experience, they move up the ladder, and their pricing moves with them. your price depends on your stylist's level, not which salon you visit.

juniorlevel 1
talented stylists building their craft with ongoing education and mentorship. the most accessible way to experience the walden.
signaturelevels 2 to 4
skilled, confident stylists with a growing clientele and a strong foundation across cutting and color.
seniorlevels 5 to 7
seasoned stylists with deep technical skill, advanced color work and years behind the chair.
masterlevels 8 to 10
the top of our craft. highly specialized, highly requested, and leading the standard for our team.

cuts, curls + barbering17 questions
curls

how is a curl cut different from a regular haircut?

we cut curly hair dry, in its natural state and styled the way you wear it, so we can see exactly how each curl falls. then we cleanse, steam, style and diffuse, so you always leave cleansed, styled and dry.

why do curl cuts cost more than a regular haircut?

our curl specialists have invested in their careers to specialize in curly hair, and every curl needs something different. that's why every curl cut includes a steam treatment and customized styling, so you leave with curls that are cut, cared for and styled for you.

how should i come to my curl cut?

with your hair styled the way you usually wear it, with minimal tangling. no clips, combs, braids, ponytails or protective styles. if pre-cut prep is needed, a $50 prep fee may be added to your appointment.

why is there a prep fee for my curly cut?

if we have to cleanse and diffuse your hair before the cut, then re-wet, condition, steam, style and diffuse it again afterward, that takes additional time from our stylists' schedules and may require additional staffing to complete your service in your scheduled time slot. that's what the $50 prep fee covers.

which curl cut should i book?

  • short curl cut (45 min): pixie cuts and more masculine cuts
  • medium curl cut (1 hr): anything from a bob to your collarbone
  • long curl cut (1 hr 30 min): past your collarbone
  • express curl cut (30 min): for returning guests who've already had our full, educational curl cut and want a quick dry cut

what is the extra thick hair add-on?

if your hair is thick or extra thick, this add-on gives us extra time in your appointment so we can give your hair the attention it deserves.

what is a braid out?

a braid out is a style for curly hair that reshapes your curl pattern. it's often used to stretch your curls and give your hair a longer look.

what is a wash and go?

we wash, style and diffuse your hair, so you always leave our salon cleansed, styled and dry.

how often should i get my curls cut?

every 3 to 6 months. come in closer to every 3 months to keep your shape, especially with shorter curls, or closer to every 6 months if you want to see more growth.

cuts

which haircut length should i book?

  • short haircut (45 min): pixie cuts and more masculine cuts
  • medium haircut (1 hr): anything from a bob to your collarbone
  • long haircut (1 hr 15 min): past your collarbone

how often should i get a haircut?

  • clipper cuts: every 2 to 3 weeks
  • short and medium styles: every 4 to 6 weeks
  • long styles: every 6 to 8 weeks or more

do you offer bang trims between cuts?

yes. bang trims are complimentary for up to 2 weeks after your haircut. after that, they're $20.

what is a re-shape?

a quick 15 minute dry cut to shape up your face framing and layers between full haircuts. it doesn't include a shampoo or style, and it's half your stylist's long haircut price.

do you cut kids' hair?

some of our stylists do. to see who's available, book online and select "kids cut," and the stylists who offer it will show up on the next screen.

barbering

do you offer barbering?

yes. we're a combination salon and barbershop, so cuts, fades and grooming happen right alongside color and extensions.

what's included in a clipper cut?

a clipper cut gets the same treatment as our short, medium and long haircuts. it always includes a shampoo and style, with hot towels and steam for relaxation.

what razor shave services do you offer?

razor shaves are offered by our barbers, for the full head, the face, or both. you'll get a close straight razor shave with premium shaving cream made with hemp and creatine to help prevent ingrown hairs, plus alternating hot and cold towels and aftershave.

color13 questions

what color services do you offer?

root touch-ups, all-over color, glosses, foil kisses, dimensional color (full and medium highlights and balayage), and custom color for blonde transformations, color corrections, vivid colors, bleach and tones. see every service on our price list.

what's the difference between a highlight, balayage and foil kisses?

  • highlights: usually placed right to the root for a high-impact, brighter look that's less lived-in.
  • balayage: free-hand painted, and it covers more surface area than a traditional highlight, giving you more brightness with a softer, lived-in grow out. because it processes in the open air instead of in foils, balayage tends to land on the warmer side.
  • foil kisses: just what they sound like, a kiss of highlights. think a face frame, a bit of dimension, a few lowlights worked into your color, or a pop of brightness for spring and summer.

what is custom color, and why is it hourly?

custom color is for anything that doesn't fit in a box: blonde transformations, color corrections, vivid colors, bleach and tones. because every custom service is different, it's billed hourly at your stylist's rate, with a 4 hour minimum, so nothing gets rushed. it always starts with a complimentary consultation.

what's included in dimensional color?

every highlight and balayage includes a bond builder to protect your hair, plus a toner and gloss. want a base color too? add a base for $40 and about 15 more minutes.

what is the product charge on my color ticket?

we measure every bowl with vish, our product management software, so you only pay for the color you actually use. the average is about $31.40 per color service, and about $100 for custom color. yours may be higher or lower depending on your hair's length and thickness and the complexity of your service. try our visit calculator for an estimate.

how should i come to my color appointment?

with clean, dry hair, so your stylist can see your true color and get you the best result.

do you do patch testing?

yes. if you've ever had a reaction to hair color, book a consultation at least 48 hours before your color appointment so we can patch test first. it keeps your appointment safe for you and your hair.

can i get color if i've used box dye or colored my hair at home?

absolutely, and we will never judge. just know that box dye does add limitations to your color service. our stylists are some of the best around, but we're not magicians, and we can't break the laws of science without breaking your hair. be honest with us about your color history, and we'll find the healthiest path to the color you want.

how often should i come back for color?

  • root touch-up and all-over color: every 4 to 6 weeks
  • highlights: every 6 to 8 weeks
  • balayage: every 12 to 16 weeks

how long do vivid colors last?

vivids are semi-permanent, which means the color sits on the outside of your hair strand, while demi and permanent colors oxidize and live inside it. that's why vivids slip out much faster. how quickly they fade depends on how often you wash and whether you use cool or hot water. remember, if your hair is dripping water, it's probably dripping color too, so drying your hair right after each wash helps you wear your color longer.

  • pastels fade very, very quickly and need some home care.
  • purple and other deep vivids fade more slowly.
  • blue barely fades at all, and it's the hardest color to remove, so be sure you love it.
  • pink is a great first vivid. it fades the prettiest, back to a soft blonde, while other colors need professional products to remove.
  • purple often fades to green. your hair is usually yellow-blonde when we apply it, and the red and blue pigments in purple last different lengths of time. the red fades first, leaving blue on yellow hair, which makes green. that's how purple is supposed to fade. it's not a stylist error.

how do i care for my color at home?

every product we carry in the salon is color-safe, and your stylist will always recommend what's best for your hair and your color. you can also order through our online store.

can i get color and a smoothing treatment on the same day?

yes, as long as your color happens first. if you get your smoothing treatment first, wait 2 weeks before coloring.

is keune color ppd free?

yes. keune tinta color, the permanent color we use, does not contain ppd (paraphenylenediamine). it uses ptd (toluene-2,5-diamine) instead, which many people with a ppd sensitivity tolerate better.

ptd is closely related to ppd, though, so it isn't right for everyone. if you have a known ppd allergy or have reacted to hair color before, please tell us when you book so we can talk through your options before your service.

smoothing10 questions

what smoothing treatments do you offer?

we offer five, so your stylist can match the treatment to your hair and your lifestyle:

  • brazilian blowout: our signature smoothing treatment. frizz-free, shiny, easy-to-manage hair that keeps its body and bounce, lasting about 10 to 12 weeks with the right aftercare.
  • brazilian blowout free: brazilian blowout's newest smoothing formula. ask your stylist if it's the right fit for your hair.
  • brazilian blowout express: a quicker smoothing service when you want less frizz and faster styling without the full treatment time.
  • age rewind: brazilian blowout's reparative treatment for mature hair that feels dull, weak, wiry or thinning. it adds shine and softness, helps tame wiry and gray hair, and helps your color last. benefits last up to about 10 washes.
  • keratin complex: keratin smoothing treatments that reduce curl and frizz, reinforce weak spots, and leave hair soft, silky and shiny. offered by mj.

see times and pricing on our price list.

who is a good candidate for a smoothing treatment?

almost anyone with frizzy, damaged or color-treated hair, including permed hair and hair with extensions. a quick consultation helps us choose the right treatment for you.

will a smoothing treatment make my hair straight?

it depends on your hair. wavy hair tends to look naturally straight, very curly hair keeps its curl with much less frizz, and straight, frizzy hair turns smoother and shinier. keratin complex treatments aren't straightening treatments either: they soften curl and frizz rather than erase it.

will i lose volume?

no. your natural volume stays, and your hair still holds a bend, so you can curl it, wear it wavy or blow it out straight in a fraction of the time.

how long does a smoothing treatment last?

a brazilian blowout lasts about 10 to 12 weeks with proper aftercare, and results build over time, so repeat treatments leave hair healthier and last longer. keratin complex results vary by treatment, and age rewind benefits last up to about 10 washes.

how often should i come back for smoothing?

  • brazilian blowout: every 12 weeks
  • brazilian blowout express: every 6 weeks
  • keratin complex express: every 12 weeks

can i get a smoothing treatment if my hair is colored or highlighted?

yes. smoothing actually conditions color-treated and highlighted hair, seals the cuticle, cuts frizz and adds shine.

can i get color and a smoothing treatment on the same day?

yes, as long as your color happens first. if you get your smoothing treatment first, wait 2 weeks before coloring.

how do i care for my hair after smoothing?

your stylist will walk you through your aftercare before you leave. using sulfate-free, smoothing-friendly shampoo and conditioner helps your results last, and you can order aftercare products through our online store.

can i get a smoothing treatment while pregnant or nursing?

please check with your physician before any chemical service while pregnant or nursing.

extensions16 questions

do i need a consultation before extensions?

yes. every extension service starts with a complimentary consultation, where we match your color and texture, talk through your goals and choose the right method and amount of hair. you can request one through our extension appointment request form.

what's the difference between k-tips and signature wefts?

k-tips are small, individual bonds made with italian keratin, placed strand by strand for a seamless, natural look and lots of styling freedom. signature wefts are rows of hair that add fullness, especially for fine or thinning hair. nothing is sewn into your natural hair, and they grow out seamlessly. your stylist will recommend the best fit at your consultation.

how much hair will i need?

it depends on your goal: filling in a haircut, adding fullness, adding length, or both. get a ballpark with our extension estimator, and your stylist will confirm the exact amount at your consultation.

how much do extensions cost?

every install is priced at your complimentary consultation, based on your method, length and how much hair you need. for a ballpark before you come in, try our extension estimator.

what's included in an extension appointment?

every extension application includes a complimentary blending haircut so your hair and extensions move as one. book an extension + color package and lunch is on us.

how long does an install take?

it depends on how much hair you're adding and your goal length.

  • density install: about an hour or less
  • full head install: about 3 to 4 hours
  • full transformation, like a bob to a bust-down: up to 8 hours

your stylist will give you a time estimate at your consultation.

how long do extensions last?

with proper care, the hair itself lasts up to a year. as your natural hair grows, you'll come back for maintenance:

  • k-tips: every 4 to 6 months
  • signature wefts: every 4 to 6 weeks

what happens at a maintenance appointment?

for both k-tips and signature wefts, we:

  1. remove your extensions
  2. cleanse your natural hair
  3. treat your scalp
  4. give you a blowout
  5. reinstall your hair

k-tips are also re-tipped with fresh keratin bonds before they go back in. each re-tip makes the extensions a little shorter, so many of our guests keep two sets of k-tips: one set goes right back in while the other is being re-tipped, with no time without extensions.

will extensions damage my hair?

when they're installed, maintained and removed by a trained specialist, extensions are designed to be gentle on your natural hair. the most important things are keeping up with your maintenance appointments and never removing them yourself.

can my extensions be colored or styled?

yes. all of our extensions can be colored, and you can heat style them just like your own hair. whether they can be lightened depends on the hair itself: some can and some can't. we use a variety of ethically sourced hair to match your texture, your color and your end goal, and your stylist will let you know what yours can do.

how do i care for my extensions at home?

your stylist will walk you through your routine before you leave. the key rules:

  • use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.
  • use a heat protectant every time you heat style.
  • choose a mineral sunscreen. chemical sunscreens, especially ones with avobenzone, can react with extension hair and turn it pink.
  • before bed, braid your hair and sleep in a satin bonnet, on a satin pillowcase, or both.

you can order everything you need through our online store.

can i swim with extensions?

yes, with a little prep:

  1. rinse your hair with clean water first.
  2. add a leave-in conditioner.
  3. secure your hair in a tight low bun or braids.
  4. rinse your hair right after you get out of the water.

who installs extensions at the walden.?

  • k-tips: reba and hunter
  • signature wefts: reba, emilie, mj and katie

reba is our extension specialist and educator, and installs both methods. not sure who's right for you? your consultation will match you with the best fit. meet the team.

do i need a deposit to book extensions?

yes. a 40% non-refundable deposit secures your extension appointment, and it's applied to your service ticket when you check out. we keep our most popular hair on hand, so there's very little wait between your consultation and your install. before your appointment, we prep your extensions. sometimes we color them before you arrive, and sometimes we color them together with your hair at your install, whichever gives you the best result.

what if i miss my consultation?

consultations are always complimentary, but a $50 fee applies to a no-call, no-show.

where does your extension hair come from?

our extensions are 100% ethically sourced hair, hand-selected before production and matched to your texture and color. we offer italian keratin k-tips and naturally wavy signature wefts. pricing is based on consultation.
